History of Welham Boys’ School

In 1937, Miss Hersilia Susie Oliphant, an English woman, used her £1000 cash to start Welham as a training school for boarding schools in England and India. There were no school buildings, no staff, and no money. Currently, there are nine teachers for every one student on campus.

She called the school after the Nottinghamshire village of Welham, where she was raised. Later on, she established Welham Girls’ School, a sister institution.

Welham Boys’ School is currently run by a board of trustees; however Miss Oliphant gave all of her possessions to the school in 1956. In January 1983, Mr. S. K. (Charlie) Kandhari became the new principal. Welham Boys’ School (WBS) is currently a participating member of the Round Square cooperative group. The school holds workshops on military awareness and simulates UN gatherings.
